Some of the Worlds Strangest Fences (part 2)
79Obladi Oblada Life Goes On Bra
...and up the fence, like in this case:
You notice this fence goes on pretty much forever. No shortage of bras in New Zealand... (or at least in Cardrona, Otago Province).
This is more proof, if you needed it, of the bizarre but often sublime human ability to demonstrate daftness on a massive scale. In 1999 four bras were inexplicably left on the fence. By the next year there were two hundred. Now this rural fence in the middle of nowhere is festooned with the things and has become a huge tourist attraction. If an idea is good then a variation on a theme often works too - witness a Shoe Fence:
You have to hand it to our friends from New Zealand. They have an idea. It works. They stick with it. What are they going to throw on a fence next? (my vote is for more bras, of course)
The Scottish Sheep Fence Thingy
You have probably seen the pictures of webs created by spiders after scientists had administered various amounts of illegal substances to them. One shudders to think what the perpetrator, sorry builder, of this fence had ingested before he had the cunning plan of creating this beauty in which to keep his sheep! Located in Crinan in Scotland.
Something about this fence figure... is not quite rightThere is a doll inside this thing somewhere (silently screaming).
More groovy fences around the world:
Russian Cheburashka (their version of a hobbit) makes his appearance, again:
Speaking of Russian fences, what kind of logic is this? At least it's carefully locked -
This gate says "Russia"... It's tightly locked and yet not even a fence in sight. There is a deeper meaning to this picture, which becomes a symbol in itself (especially if the rest of the fence was stolen and turned in for vodka) -
Give your dog more personal space. He'll be a happier dog then. (Order this "Pet Peak" fence enhancement here)
Some fences have more gruesome history than their owners care to admit:
These pencils are ready to become a part of a pencil fence:
This is only a sample of the weird fences around the world. There are many more (check out for example, toothebrush Fence, or the Musical Fence, on which you can actually play like on musical instrument...). Even your own short drives into backcountry might uncover some wonders of local creativity - certainly a welcome change from an endless stream of featureless, utilitarian fence designs.

This is great! I am a huge fan of the weird strange or odd. Great Job!
I love the bra fence and the colored pencil fence. So cool!
I actually saw a locked gate in Hawaii with no fence attached. It was pretty funny!
Well, I´m not a good example as my fences have no gates. Who knows, maybe I could make a couple of gates like those ;-)
seconds are best :)
great idea for disposing off your used items like shoes and bra. It provides a hint also that how supersitious are people. In India, If you place something on a fence or a tree you will find lot of similar items there within few days or weeks. Anyways, strange fences and strange hub idea.
Good Hub, the scottish fence thingy kinda looked like ours. I gotta stop mending fences.
This Is Great! Odd food for thought. I enjoyed your hub and look forward to more. C.S.
I like the colored pencil fence! :)
Excellent hub. I really like the coloured pencil one too.
A very interesting set of hubs, these were. I don't have a fence :-( I want to come up with something imaginative now and put one up ;-) Nice Job!
If you vote for that,i will follow you.lolThumbs up
Dunno how you came up with all these but they're great. And "no" I have not seen the spider webs made by high and intoxicated spiders. I suppose that's fodder for another hub if you get bored.
Love strange and groovy fences even better than part one if you can believe it. Thank you again.
Great hub. But are the bra's stolen and being "fenced"?
I built a wire mesh dome fence over my cat mint (catnip) plants to let them grow to a respectable six inches or so without being steamrollered to the dust by my drugged up kitty. No photos, unfortunately.
Great hub.
Fences without gates are common here in the Ozarks. Gates without fences seem so symbolic!
A very nice hub. A great collection of fences. Very amusing.
Another amazing collection. Keep going.
Interesting fences, but the clothes, shoes, and bras could be recycled instead and put to better use. Just my two cents.
What an interesting hub...I never thought about the different kinds of fences....superb pictures -- thanks for visiting my hubs and inviting me to yours...this is super!! more more....
Very interesting! I love the weird things that people do. Great hub.

Very whacky! Great photos, and an amusing hub.

Great Hub. Keep up the good work. I agree with Ryan, the comments make it!
Some call it weird and odd....I call it expressive and colourful. Thanks for inviting me over to your hubs, I have enjoyed reading them all : )
Shaye
Enjoyed your hub.
This is really... FUN!
The Pet Peek fence is really neat! I enjoyed this hub very much. The fenceless gates are awesome!
Hahaha, fances are incredible :)
More great pics! Again, thanks so much for sharing! Very cute hub.
I love the brick child fence. It's just so bizarre.
Not sure I'd want to see it out of my bedroom window, though!
If you wnat to see some of the most beatiful fences and gates in the r\world, try Martha"s Vineyard.
Amazing! I love the brick one :o)
stumbled across this and wished I'd written it. Very good.
This is so inspiring. Now I want to move my fencing plans higher on my to do list.
I am not so sure that this is actually a shoe fence. It looks more like a shoe exchange, where you can walk up in one set of shoes and leave in another ;)
I have never seen 1 blog cause such a stir!! Amazing and wonderful collection!
I Israel in Acco I saw a fence (of a private house) welded from old bicycles, buggy wheels, metal weights and other metal junk. Looked very cool.
Very entertaining hub. People are so inventive :-)
In one of my hubs regarding Grant's farm (and the Clydesdale horses) there is a photo of a fence made of old confederate rifles.
Amazing what people think to utilize in building fences! Enjoyed this hub immensely. The photos and your comments were great.
Those fences are awesome! I think the Scottish Sheep Fence was my favorite. Thanks for the cool pics.
Very Funny. I like the bras Fence ;)
Wonderful hub. It's really entertaining! Would love more hubs like this. Makes one laughs and that is good!
I really like the ski fence. It is creative, and could be made with almost no expense, by using old unwanted skies.
Love love love these fences. Wow! I will share this with everyone.
Many many many thanks!
Great pictures and a fun hub! Thanks, will have to keep my eyes peeled for weird ones on my drives.
Very Funny. I like the nice fence LOL
Odd World, I love the fences especially the ski fence and the pencil fence. Have you checked out Christo's beautiful art work such as the Running Fence?
Hi Prue
nice to see your work !! keep it up
What can be more boring than fenses? Well, I could not stop reading. Great job.
Hadn't really thought much about fences before reading this. Except they can be quite expensive to build. Some really incredibly and funny recycling and artistic solutions to fences in both both part 1 & 2.
neat hub,
How did you find those strange fences? Its really fun to see how those fences are made.
Keep posting these type of hubs, I enjoyed it a lot. Thank you

The fenceless gates are pretty funny.
Why would scads of women want to leave expensive bras on a fence next to other women's bras, out in the middle of nowhere? Sorry, it begs the question.
